About Cook County Sheriff’s Urban Farming Program

Began in 1993 in the pre-release center with a 600-square-foot seasonal vegetable garden. Over 25 years shipped about 50 tons of produce to non-profits, taught horticulture to 500+ non-violent individuals in custody, and certified 200+ Master Gardeners. A 1,500 sq ft greenhouse was built in 2010, and the garden expanded to 2 acres in 2011, with one acre for flowers and one for vegetables.
