About The Shire Homestead
The Shire Homestead of Maine is a non-GMO, organic practice, shallow till, permaculture focused and intensively grown small family farm. Chickens, ducks and geese are pastured; goats and Heritage hogs (Idaho Pasture and Kunekune crossed with American Guinea Hog) are raised outdoors on grass or in the woods, with occasional Katahdin sheep for meat. Many herbs and mushrooms are wild harvested, and soaps and lotions are made from what they grow and gather.
